Old and new
Uganda is a strange mixture of old ways and new technology. Board games are a popular pastime; my colleagues brought a pile of them to play at the picnic by Lake Victoria - Ludo, Scrabble and Monopoly. The postal service is slow and unreliable so I am often asked to deliver packages by hand if I happen to be going to another office. On the other hand everyone has a mobile phone and text messaging / SMS is often the easiest way to reach people - few have voicemail and internet connections are not always reliable for email. Outside the IDI building is a tented stall selling solar powered lights - very useful in the frequent power blips outside the city center.
