African Scenes

Some of my other favorite sights were the scenes of various animals, birds and plants juxtaposed against the magnificent landscape.  Here are some beautiful scenes for you to enjoy.

Carmine Bee Eaters flocked in the trees while Rothschild Giraffes browsed nearby.

Here's a view of elephants and giraffes in the distance, against a backdrop of scrub and Borassia palm.

It's been quite rainy for the last few months and the grass was long and lush - juicy green at the bottom with yellow tips and reddish seed heads.  In some places the grasses were so thick and long that you could barely see the glossy brown Kob, other than their curved black horns rising above the vegetation.  White cattle egrets mingled with the antelope and by the road's edge pink and pale purple mallow flowers bloomed.
Tall red anthills dotted the grasslands - sometimes they looked like animals crouching in the grass.

Antelope at a water hole
These hippos were relaxing in a bed of hyacinths, while a grey heron perched on top; the air was thick with dragonflies.
